FKA Twigs x House of Malakai
May 2nd 2016 The Metropolitan Museum of Art also known as the Met held their annual and much anticipated Met Gala; this year’s the theme was Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology that was intended to highlight “the dichotomy between handmade haute couture and machine-made fashion,”. Cultural icon FKA Twigs incorporated a headpiece from House of Malakai as a nod to the theme as well as to House of Malakai’s artistic presence in the fashion world. House of Malakai is known for paying “ particular attention to detail and hand craft, in combination with modern digital techniques.”. Malakai is based in Bali, Indonesia but draws on inspiration from experience in the underground of San Francisco, avant garde elaborate looks, and ancient tribal cultures. House of Malakai is truly Fashion in the Age of Technology as its collections walk a fine line between futuristic and cutting edge and reminiscent of a time before our own.
FKA Twigs is known for her eclectic style that is also a degree otherworldly, the incorporation of House of Malakai into her look brought forth that exact unity. House of Malakai creates art that transcends our time merging worlds past, present, and future.
